The following Briefing has been received from the Partnership Development Team, Lancashire County Council:

Bad weather brief – March 23 (v1.0)

As you may be aware, the Met Office have forecast some cold weather across the County over the next few days. This may lead to outbreaks of sleet and snow, with road surface temperatures likely to fall below zero. As usual, our fleet of gritters will be working hard throughout this period to keep Lancashire's roads moving.

In an ideal world our gritters would treat every road on the adopted highway network. Unfortunately, this is not possible. Instead, we do everything we can to keep traffic moving on the priority road network in the county.

Our winter service plan details our priority road network, and how we decide which roads to treat. You can find out more about this plan, and our full winter service, online at: Winter in Lancashire - Lancashire County Council.

In addition to our gritting operations, we also provide more than 2,600 grit bins across the county. These are usually at locations not on an existing gritting route, or where we have identified a particular hazard. We fill all of these grit bins before the start of the winter season, and as often as possible thereafter. You can see all of our gritting routes, and our grit bin locations, online at: Winter in Lancashire - our gritting routes.

Please do not send any grit bin requests to the Highways District Lead Team, you can request a new grit bin, or a grit bin refill/repair, by using the ‘Love Clean Streets’ app. However please review the criteria to ensure it is met, prior to requesting a new grit bin, you should also be aware that its quite unlikely at this stage in the season for any new grit bins to be installed.

The app is free to download and simple to use. It allows anyone to log a request in seconds on their mobile phone or tablet whilst out and about. It also allows for the inclusion of photos, which helps us assess the request quickly.

You can find the app by searching for ‘Love Clean Streets’ on the Apple Store or the Google Play Store online. Alternatively, you may wish to call our Highways Helpline on 0300 123 6780.
